Ricciardo Praised by Lawson Despite Battle for RB F1 Seat

Lawson Hails Ricciardo’s Mentorship Amid F1 Seat Rivalry

11/10/2024

Liam Lawson commends Ricciardo’s guidance, despite their rivalry for the coveted Red Bull F1 seat in Austin.

Liam Lawson will replace Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull F1 starting next weekend in Austin, and the New Zealander was keen to praise the Australian driver’s good sportsmanship. Lawson revealed that Ricciardo acted as a mentor to him throughout the year, despite them both competing for the same seat.

“With Daniel, I never felt like we were competing for the same thing, even though I think we were. It never felt like that. There were plenty of things he could have refused to do, but he didn’t,” Lawson said, acknowledging that he, like Ricciardo, had been aware of the situation as early as Singapore.

“Honestly, he’s helped me a lot over the last 12 months. He handled the whole situation in Singapore really well, and I think we both knew how things would unfold when everything came out in the media. That’s honestly why I wasn’t too focused on my phone.”

Lawson also mentioned that he doesn’t pay much attention to social media and prefers to focus on what matters to him: “It doesn’t bother me too much. I have a lot to concentrate on, especially with the last six races, and that’s honestly where my focus has been.”

“I don’t really have the capacity to do everything else. If I spent all day on my phone, actively following everything being posted, I’d probably feel differently. But I’ve tried to avoid doing that.”
