Vasseur remarks on F1’s distinction in live radio communication, acknowledging he’d handle things differently.
Lewis Hamilton will be a Ferrari driver next season and at Spa, he noted that Max Verstappen’s behaviour on the team radio in Hungary was not befitting a world champion.
The question was thus put to Frédéric Vasseur, the future boss of the seven-time world champion: if his driver spoke like that on the team radio, would he have taken him aside after the race to have a word?
“I don’t see the connection with Lewis here, I’m sorry.”
“I’m not sure if I should be politically correct or not, but at the end of the day, we must also keep in mind that we are the only sport in the world where the guys talk on the radio during effort or the race.”
“I’m not sure that if you put a microphone on a football player, it would be much better. Even sometimes on the referee!”
“That means we also need to calm down with this. Or we need to turn off the microphone, but I’m not sure that would be a step forward for the show.”
“But to answer the question, yes, I would act and I would discuss it with Lewis as with any other driver.”
