Max Verstappen stands firm on his radio remarks, dismissing any notion of crossing the line during heated exchanges.
Max Verstappen has refuted claims that his radio aggression was “worse than usual” in Hungary.
The three-time reigning world champion was displeased throughout last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, issuing several sharp radio messages to his team and race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase.
Verstappen was highly critical of Red Bull’s strategy and the performance of his RB20, culminating in a post-race message to critics to “fuck off.”
Verstappen now denies that he was angrier than usual.
“I don’t agree with that. I was just annoyed, obviously, by what happened. Maybe the team at the time didn’t realize what they had done wrong or maybe they didn’t see that it was so serious. But of course, in the car, you feel the emotions too.”
“Sure, I’m annoyed, but I’ve been annoyed in the past. It’s not worse than usual, I didn’t go too far, I say what I think. The team knows it, the fans know it, like it or not.”
“Sometimes, you press the radio button to express your opinion and that’s what I did, hoping the second pit stop might be a better decision. But it wasn’t.”
“For me, it’s not a distraction when I’m driving. Sure, I’m annoyed, but you also focus on what you need to do, which is control the car.”
And he maintains his criticism of certain unnamed members of Red Bull.
“Yes, I said over the weekend that some people might not be on the same wavelength. That’s also harsh but justified.”
