Verstappen’s upcoming Silverstone race could see a hostile reception, spurred by his recent clash with Norris.
The paddock is holding its breath for the upcoming Grand Prix this weekend at Silverstone. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen are expected to be close on track again…
Following their clash in Austria, ticket sales at the British circuit have surged, even though Silverstone recently complained about Red Bull’s dominance as a reason for not being “sold out” yet (ticket prices are very high, editor’s note).
British fans have already vowed to give Verstappen a taste of his own medicine from the stands on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!
Does Christian Horner not fear escalation? Does he not also anticipate a very cold, if not hostile, reception for Max Verstappen from the English fans?
“I’m sure the crowd will be partisan in favour of the British drivers, as they are for Max in the Netherlands, but I think whenever we go to these circuits, there’s always respect for the other drivers.”
“I hope Max receives a reasonable welcome and I’m sure the crowd will be orange again this weekend – perhaps not fans of Max Verstappen, but rather fans of McLaren.”
“This reception from the fans, it won’t bother him. Max will keep his head down and won’t change. He is the driver he is and I’m sure he’ll race just as hard this weekend.”
Verstappen should not be afraid of being booed a little more this weekend, according to Silverstone’s boss, Stuart Pringle.
“Max shouldn’t worry about a little extra dig from Lando’s compatriots this weekend. I’m absolutely sure of it. Our fans are first and foremost fans of the sport.”
Max Verstappen’s former boss at Toro Rosso, Franz Tost, however, advises the triple world champion to consider the likely extra boos as an honour!
“The English should cheer for Lando and boo Max. But it’s like conferring a knighthood on him!”
“Michael Schumacher was also booed at Silverstone. Back then, he dared to be faster than Damon Hill.”
