Arriving at Imola, future Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton expects strong support from Italian fans, despite still racing for Mercedes.
Lewis Hamilton is at an Italian circuit for the first time as a future Ferrari driver.
The seven-time world champion will indeed drive for the Scuderia in 2025, a decision welcomed by all Italians.
Does he expect different treatment this weekend? A bit more support even though he is still driving for a rival team?
“Firstly, yes, as you say, I am currently a Mercedes F1 driver,” Hamilton reminds.
“I love being in Italy. And when you come here, you must eat good food!”
“But yes, I don’t have any particular feeling about it… I don’t know what to expect. I think I’ve always had good support here in the past. Racing is huge here, as you know.”
“I’m really looking forward to seeing a lot of people, but I don’t know what to expect; it might be the same.”
“I arrived like any other weekend. There will be a lot of people here, there always are, and the Tifosi will come out in force. I can’t wait to see them, but I haven’t had much time to interact with them yet.”
