Haas F1 had a productive day at Imola, with Bearman impressing and Hülkenberg evaluating new upgrades.
Ollie Bearman participated in the first free practice session of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, the first of six FP1 sessions he will compete in this season. Fifteenth, the Briton resumed work with Haas F1 for the first time this year.
“I’m really happy with my performance in FP1. The session was a bit shorter due to the red flag, but I’m quite pleased with how I managed the car’s pace.”
“Driving in Free Practice in F2 also really helped me step up quite quickly. I think all the work we do behind the scenes is paying off because from the first laps, I felt really comfortable in the car and at home.”
“The long run also went well, and the car seems to have improved compared to last year. I’m proud of the guys; they’re having an excellent season so far, and I look forward to getting back behind the wheel in Barcelona.”
Nico Hülkenberg is the only regular Haas F1 driver to have completed both sessions. He set the 9th fastest time in FP2 after a data-gathering FP1.
“This morning, we did some running with aero measurement devices to compare the launch car to the current car.”
“In FP2, we returned to the normal program and everything went well. There was a lot of wind today, so the cars were quite difficult to drive as they were inconsistent in terms of grip, which made it easy to go off track.”
“It’s an intense track in terms of pace, quite fast but also providing great sensations, I really enjoy it!”
Kevin Magnussen took over the VF-24 in the afternoon, after Bearman handed back the car. Seventeenth fastest, he admitted it was challenging to get into the rhythm with one session less and was surprised by the narrow margins.
“It’s a great circuit, but it’s not easy to arrive and be quick. I wasn’t very far off, but it’s very tight here, more than usual. This field is crazy; I’m three or four tenths off the Red Bulls and I’m 17th. I hope to find some time tomorrow,” noted the Dane, who also needs to get used to the upgrades introduced by Haas.
“It’s still early; we haven’t had much time to look at things and study the data. We’ll surely know more next week. We’re finding time with every lap, and it’s a circuit close to a street layout, it’s a raw track, but I appreciate that.”
