Williams F1 prioritizes 2026, with Albon confirming minimal development on the FW47 to avoid compromising next season’s performance and long-term goals.
Alex Albon has confirmed that Williams F1 will not spend too much time or allocate too many resources to this year’s car. The Grove-based team is seen as a potential surprise contender for 2025, but its driver insists the focus will be on the 2026 season.
“We’ll have to wait and see. I think the focus is on next year,” Albon said. “The more time you spend on updates and improvements for this year, the more you risk compromising next year.”
“You’ll reduce the personnel you can dedicate to the car. Our goal is to become a leading team and achieve that, but we’re not going to spend too much time focusing on this year’s car.”
However, Albon assures that Williams now has a much better understanding of its car and how to maximize its potential. “I think we know the areas we need to work on. There are new things, new software, and new areas to focus on, which have slightly changed the car’s balance.”
“As you can see, I think overall, the car is in a much better position than last year. There are some areas where we’re still catching up, but nothing we can’t address. For now, though, we’re in a reasonable position.”
