Miami secures its Formula 1 future with a historic deal, reinforcing its position as the fastest-growing Grand Prix in the United States.
By 2041, Kimi Antonelli will be 35, and Fernando Alonso will be celebrating his 60th birthday. That same year, the Miami Grand Prix will still be firmly on the Formula 1 calendar.
This new agreement makes the Miami GP the longest-running race under contract in F1 history. It’s a bold signal of the event’s growing success and Formula 1’s continued rise in the United States.
While iconic European tracks like Imola and Barcelona face uncertain futures with contracts set to expire, Miami is locking in for the long haul.
Tom Garfinkel, the man behind the Miami GP and president of both the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium, spoke to reporters over the weekend to explain the reasoning behind the record-breaking extension.
“We’re trying to build something different here, something unique and true to Miami,” Garfinkel said. “What works here might not work elsewhere, and that’s okay.”
As for the unusually long deal, he explained: “Stefano [Domenicali] and I have been in talks for a while. After three successful years, we wanted to plan for the future and commit to staying here.”
“This gives us the freedom to be creative and invest in a big way. We’re talking about a private investment worth hundreds of millions of dollars. You just can’t recoup that in five years.”
The long-term contract allows the team to keep pushing boundaries without cutting corners. Garfinkel emphasized that it’s not just about profits, it’s about creating an unforgettable experience and helping F1 grow in the U.S.
“We want to do things the right way. We’re here to stay, and that’s the message we’re sending.”
