Verstappen Curious About Newey’s Role at Aston Martin

Verstappen looks forward to seeing Newey’s influence shape Aston Martin’s performance under the 2026 Formula 1 regulations.

Max Verstappen said he is “eager” to see how competitive Aston Martin F1 will be with Adrian Newey leading their technical team for the 2026 Formula 1 regulations.

After choosing to leave Red Bull in mid-2024, Newey has now settled into his role as “Chief Technical Partner” at Aston Martin since taking up the position in March.

The team is clearly hoping that the arrival of F1’s most renowned designer to oversee the technical department will significantly boost their prospects under the new regulations.

Newey’s arrival has coincided with rumours that Aston Martin also made an enticing offer to lure Verstappen away from Red Bull by breaking his contract.

Upon learning that Fernando Alonso had praised Newey’s immediate impact, Verstappen expressed interest in seeing how Aston Martin would fare with his expertise.

“Seeing him again in the paddock, of course it reminds me of his time in our garage,” Verstappen said.

“But honestly, there’s no reason to dwell on it. Adrian is no longer with us.”

“We still have a lot of respect for Adrian – at least I have a great deal of it. He’s a remarkable person, and he remains so despite his departure, with all the success he achieved with our team.”

“Seeing him in green is of course a bit different, but I’m happy for him. I hope he’s happy. That’s what matters most in the end.”

“And I’m sure he’ll contribute to their success. I’m eager to see what they can do next year when he’s finally fully involved with their car.”
