Vasseur Hails Belgian GP as Positive for Ferrari

Ferrari Shows Promise on Spa’s Challenging Circuit

30/07/2024

Ferrari exhibited commendable pace on the demanding Spa circuit, with Vasseur expressing optimism following the Belgian Grand Prix.

Ferrari’s Team Principal, Fred Vasseur, commended Mercedes F1’s commendable strategy, despite the team’s disqualification. Vasseur expressed a desire for Charles Leclerc to have secured a legitimate third place and admitted his admiration for the current level of competitiveness in Formula 1.

“Overall, in terms of pure performance, this race was acceptable for us, although we would have preferred to head into the summer break with a podium achieved on merit,” Vasseur acknowledged following George Russell’s disqualification.

“We were all surprised by the very low degradation of the hard tyres and, conversely, the very high degradation of the medium tyres. This meant that George had the best strategy, even though he was ultimately disqualified. Behind him, everyone finished within ten seconds, which is actually very good for the sport and the championship.”

Ferrari demonstrated progress in Belgium and aims for further improvement: “Our overall pace was good, and we managed to finish ahead of both Red Bulls and a McLaren, which at Spa-Francorchamps is not too bad. I believe this weekend, on a potentially difficult circuit for us, we found a bit more performance.”

“However, we are still missing one or two tenths to be able to fight for victory again. We will focus on this from this week before the factory shutdown and after the break to increase our competitiveness for the upcoming races.”
