Fernando Alonso secures seventh in Monaco qualifying, while Lance Stroll struggles again with penalties. Strategy and safety cars could reshape Sunday.
Alonso once again showcased his top-tier driving behind the wheel of the Aston Martin AMR25.
Alonso Shines in Monaco
The Spaniard, always at ease in Monaco, delivered an excellent performance to secure 7th place—putting him in a strong position for tomorrow’s race.
“I’m very satisfied with my 7th place in qualifying and I think we did the best we could. It’s a circuit full of adrenaline, and you have to take a lot of risks on every lap, but that’s what makes it the best Saturday of the year. It’s extremely rewarding for a driver.”
“In a normal Monaco race, qualifying 7th would usually mean finishing 7th, but with the new two-stop regulation, it creates different strategies and opportunities for everyone. Let’s see what happens and whether we can come out on the right side of things tomorrow.”
Stroll Sinks in Monaco
Lance Stroll, on the other hand, was well off the pace, qualifying only 19t, far behind his teammate. After receiving a grid penalty yesterday, he picked up three more just now for impeding Pierre Gasly during Q1. However, his position remains unchanged, as Bearman will start 20th due to his own ten-place penalty.
“It was a poor session for me today. There was a lot of traffic at the start of Q1, which cost me valuable time, then a chaotic end to Q1 with the yellow flag that stopped me from improving my lap time and making it into Q2.”
“We’ll see what we can do tomorrow with the two-stop strategy—whether there are any chances to climb back up, and hopefully the safety car might work in our favor.”
