Steiner Confident Hamilton to Shine at Ferrari

Hamilton Joins Ferrari: ‘Nothing to Prove,’ Says Steiner

14/07/2024

Steiner backs Hamilton’s Ferrari move, declaring he’s beyond proving himself, poised for success.

Günther Steiner is confident that Lewis Hamilton will give his all to secure a victory for Ferrari next year when the seven-time world champion joins the Scuderia. However, the former Haas F1 director does not believe that Ferrari’s success will hinge solely on the Briton.

“I am almost certain he still has that hunger, and obviously, moving to Ferrari next year will rejuvenate him,” Steiner stated. “I think Lewis is above the pressure. In other words, he has accomplished so much in his life that he has become a sporting icon.”

“But he has made the decision to go there. He is a seven-time world champion; he has nothing to prove. He will not be the one to fail Ferrari, in my view. I mean, you know what Ferrari is like. They have been trying to win the world championship, I don’t know for how long. It was so long ago that I can’t even remember.”

According to the Italian, one of Ferrari’s advantages will be the fact that Hamilton previously drove for Fred Vasseur, the current director of the Scuderia, when he was competing in F3 with ASM and then in F2 with ART Grand Prix. This, however, does not guarantee anything, as he pointed out.

“Surely, it’s a challenge for him. And we all know he has a very good relationship with Fred Vasseur, which is one of the reasons he’s going there. When he was younger, in the lower series, he always raced for Fred’s team at the time.”

“They are good friends, and this will help them. They will try to do it together, and I think that’s a good idea. Will it work? We don’t know. It’s a very difficult task to win a world championship, and Ferrari is always almost at that level, but never quite there.”

“It’s one of those things at some point. Clearly, they believe their time will come. He has signed for a number of years to ensure he has enough time to achieve this.”
