Isack Hadjar impressed with a solid P7 in Spain, while Liam Lawson narrowly missed F1 points after a tense, action-packed race.
Hadjar finished seventh in the Spanish Grand Prix, making it a perfect 3-for-3 in points finishes during the triple-header, after placing ninth in Imola and sixth in Monaco. The Racing Bulls driver was especially pleased with his performance on the day.
“I think it was my best weekend of the year. Monaco was crazy, but here I really felt solid, especially in qualifying—I maximized what the car could do. Today we had strong race pace, the strategy was good. It’s a shame Hülkenberg passed us at the end, but there was no way to hold him off, he was just too quick,” Hadjar admitted.
The Frenchman also praised his on-track battle with fellow countryman Pierre Gasly: “We had a good fight already on the first lap, we passed each other back and forth, and after the stop, when I caught up to him, I had a big tyre advantage. That helped the overtake, but it’s always cool to battle with Pierre.”
Having scored 16 points over the last three races—compared to just five over the previous six—Hadjar acknowledged he’s riding strong momentum heading into the rest of the season: “It gives a lot of confidence.”
“I feel really comfortable in my team and with the car, and we’re only going to keep progressing. Succeeding on such a technical track like Monaco was the ultimate challenge—we pulled it off, so I have no more doubts about the second half of the season.”
Liam Lawson narrowly missed out on points after a hard-fought race with plenty of contact, and he didn’t hide his frustration after finishing 11th: “On my side it was a very solid race, but I ended up in the wrong position.”
“I missed the Safety Car line by half a second, everyone in front of us pitted, and that was it—game over. With all the work put in during the race, it sucks. We wanted points, and it’s frustrating.”
