Sauber F1 upgrades working ‘as expected’ according to Hülkenberg

The Sauber F1 team began its Spanish Grand Prix weekend with a constructive day of running at the Barcelona circuit in Catalonia. In challenging conditions, with high track and air temperatures, the team focused on optimising setup and collecting valuable data.

The latest upgrade, fitted exclusively to Nico Hülkenberg’s car for Friday’s sessions, showed some encouraging early signs.

“It was a solid Friday overall. No major issues were encountered during the sessions, even though the track conditions were among the hottest we’ve experienced this season. The car felt competitive from the start. The upgrade package we brought this weekend appears to be working as expected: the balance has improved and I felt more confident straight away behind the wheel. Tonight, we’ll go through our usual routine: analyse the data, fine-tune the setup and look for further improvements. The midfield is incredibly tight again, so every tenth matters. The fight in qualifying will be close tomorrow.”

Gabriel Bortoleto, meanwhile, completed a solid day of data gathering and will join his teammate in testing the updated components from Saturday onwards.

“Overall, it was an uneventful Friday: we completed the full programme without any problems, which is always a good way to start the weekend. I haven’t had the new parts fitted yet; I used the same package as in previous races, while Nico was testing the new specifications. From what we’ve seen so far, the upgrades seem promising, which is encouraging for the rest of the weekend. As always, the field is incredibly tight: I hope the new parts and a clean, strong lap will give us that little extra performance to get in the mix.”
