Ricciardo's F1 Comeback Falls Short, Says Christian Horner

Horner: Ricciardo Gave Everything, But Return Wasn’t Meant

13/10/2024

Christian Horner admits disappointment as Daniel Ricciardo’s attempt to return to Red Bull falls short, despite giving his all and enjoying a remarkable F1 career.

Christian Horner admitted his disappointment at seeing Daniel Ricciardo fall short in his bid to return to Red Bull after rejoining RB F1 — formerly AlphaTauri — in 2023. The Briton had hoped to see his former driver complete the circle, but now looks forward to possibly welcoming Ricciardo back as a consultant in the future.

“Yes, I would have liked him to use it as a springboard to get back to where he started and finish the story,” Horner told the F1 Nation podcast. “But that wasn’t to be. Daniel is honest about it and knows deep down that he gave his all and had a great career.”

“He has had a fantastic career. But unfortunately, the next chapter wasn’t meant to be. He’s brilliant in front of the camera. He’s a natural entertainer and showman. I’m sure he’ll be back in front of the camera one day, whether it’s a documentary or something equally fascinating.”

However, Horner also emphasised Ricciardo’s enduring passion for the sport: “He loved what he did and felt immensely honoured to be a Grand Prix driver. He’s a good singer, a talented musician, and never hesitates to take on a challenge.”

“I think Max learned a lot from him, because when Max joined the team, he was the young pup, and I believe Daniel had a great influence on him, teaching him not to take life too seriously and to enjoy the moment.”
