Renault's Bold 2026 F1 Vision Amid Growing Uncertainty

Renault F1 Faces Crossroads as 2026 Proposal Unveiled

27/09/2024

Renault F1 employees present a bold proposal for 2026, but uncertainty looms as the company nears a crucial decision on the future of French F1 engine production at Viry-Châtillon.

Just days before Renault Group’s strategic decision on halting French F1 engine production at the historic Viry-Châtillon site, the situation is darkening by the day, according to a statement from employees via the social and economic committee.

The employees unveiled a proposal made by staff representatives to Luca De Meo, CEO of Renault Group.

“As of this publication, there has been no response since the meeting between the staff delegation and Mr. De Meo on September 20. Nevertheless, the representatives remain more committed than ever.”

“During that meeting, a proposal was presented by the delegation: to participate in the 2026 championship as an Alpine team powered by our Alpine engine:

  • Committing to the competitiveness of the Power Unit on track in 2026.
  • Committing to achieving top-tier sporting results.
  • Allowing management to pursue an alternative path once the car is proven in 2026.”

“This proposal also includes a full commitment from all site employees to the brand and ensures that the F1 project will proceed in parallel with the innovation projects proposed by management last July.”

“During the meeting, the delegation also discussed the importance and challenge of developing engines in-house for all manufacturers. Indeed, the new 2026 regulations will emphasize engine integration with the chassis, further highlighting technical choices among manufacturers. The impact of ‘Energy Management’ (managing energy between the electric motor, battery, and combustion engine) will also be significant in 2026 and should be a key focus of development.”

“This regulation will therefore require much closer integration with the chassis and a greater need for technological independence. Competitors have already aligned with engine suppliers to better prepare for this transition, such as Aston Martin, Red Bull, and Audi.”

“The finish line is in sight. Following the consultative vote on Monday, September 30, the transformation plan for Alpine Racing France could be implemented. The consequences of this abandonment would be significant, including the loss of Viry-Châtillon’s attractiveness, a brain drain, and the disappearance of our global standing and French heritage.”

“Our passion and determination remain intact. Let’s preserve the DNA of our F1. Support us.”
