Mick Schumacher: Ralf’s Ideal Choice for Cadillac F1

Ralf Schumacher cautions Cadillac against picking an American driver for F1, highlighting his nephew Mick as a reliable, strong candidate for the team.

Cadillac’s entry into F1 in 2026 will provide another option for drivers seeking seats. Mick Schumacher could seize the opportunity, and his uncle Ralf believes the team would be mistaken to recruit an American driver.

“I’m almost certain they’ll rely on American talent,” said Schumacher. “On the other hand, to be honest, the IndyCar level isn’t that of Formula 1. We’ve seen that in numerous tests. But that doesn’t mean there’s not a hidden talent waiting to be discovered.”

According to the German, his nephew would be far more reliable for the Cadillac team: “Everything has to be rebuilt from scratch, and that will be very difficult. That’s why you need someone you know can do it and someone you can rely on.”

Ralf Schumacher believes Cadillac will need time to adapt, but expects the project to succeed: “Of course, it will take time, but General Motors is a giant company, and what it undertakes will ultimately work.”

“It’s important for Formula 1 because it’s another sign that a global player wants to enter. Formula 1 is still on the growth path. It’s amazing.”

“We’ll have 11 teams then, and I’m excited about that because there will be another team and, most importantly, two spots for new and young drivers. We know how tough it is with 20 cars. Now, we have 10% more available.”
