Mercedes F1 aims for a strong Canadian GP with W16 updates, hoping cooler conditions help fix recent performance struggles.
Mercedes F1 is looking to bounce back after a difficult triple-header during which the team scored only 18 points. James Allison, the team’s technical director, reminds us that this circuit has often been a good one for the team, with Brackley’s cars usually feeling at ease here, and he hopes the upgrades will prove effective.
“This is a circuit where we have tended to find our feet relatively well in the past. So I am looking forward to it. We have one or two new parts to bring with us and we will see how we get on,” said Allison.
While the W16 struggles on hot tracks, the British engineer is eager to see how the car performs on a layout that should be cooler, but where managing the temperature balance between front and rear will be key.
“We will see how we get on. But I think more than the absolute temperature, it is the different nature of the challenge in Montreal that matters. It is a circuit where it is relatively more difficult to bring the front and rear axles into the right temperature range relative to each other.”
