Haas F1 Eyes Top-10 Finish After Strong Qualifying Showing

27/10/2024

Haas F1 aims for valuable points in Mexico after both drivers secure top-10 qualifying positions, bolstering hopes for a strong race finish.

Kevin Magnussen qualified seventh for the Mexican Grand Prix, placing the Haas F1 driver on the fourth row of the starting grid, and on the clean side of the track. This positioning should enable him to aim for a solid result, especially since the VF-24 has shown stronger pace during race stints.

“Both cars are still in the top 10, ahead of all the teams we want to be in front of! It’s been a very good day. The track is dusty on the right side, so starting from the clean side is another bonus, and it should give us a good chance to finish in the points tomorrow,” said the Danish driver.

“That’s the goal. Obviously, we want to finish as high as possible, but our main battle is with RB F1, and to some extent with Williams and Alpine, but especially with RB. We want to stay ahead of them. I hope that Nico and I can both finish in the top 10 tomorrow.”

Nico Hülkenberg qualified tenth after making a mistake during his flying lap in Q3. The German driver, however, was not surprised by the outcome, as he has struggled throughout the weekend to find a rhythm.

“It’s been a bit difficult for me this weekend. I haven’t managed to feel comfortable with the car, and the laps just aren’t coming together as I want them to. I can’t find the pace or the harmony with the car. Some laps are good, others aren’t, and I didn’t manage to put in a good lap in Q3,” Hülkenberg admitted.

Nonetheless, he remains hopeful about Haas’s prospects in the race: “Kevin did a very good job by qualifying seventh, and with both cars starting from the front of the midfield, we have strong top speed, and overtaking is tough here, so everything is still possible for us.”
