Liam Lawson’s aggressive Bahrain GP weekend ends with stewards handing him five licence points after clashes with two rivals.
Liam Lawson now has five penalty points on his super licence after being handed three more during the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Racing Bulls driver was penalized for two separate on-track collisions involving Lance Stroll and Nico Hülkenberg.
The first incident occurred in Turn 2, where Lawson made light contact with Stroll’s Aston Martin. Stewards considered the impact minor, giving him a five-second time penalty and one point on his licence.
However, a later clash with Hülkenberg at Turn 1 was deemed more serious. Lawson received a ten-second penalty and an additional two licence points, bringing his total to five over the current 12-month period.
Speaking after the race, Lawson said the contacts were unintentional.
“We had good pace, but it was tough to make moves. I had to go for some pretty late dives just to get a shot with the slipstream,” he explained. “Of course, I wasn’t trying to hit anyone, but the stewards made their call. We’ll have to go back and review both incidents.”
