Lewis Hamilton reflects on his challenging year with Mercedes and shares his emotions ahead of his groundbreaking move to Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton admitted that his final season with Mercedes F1 was marked by “a lot of turbulence” and “many ups and downs.”
He also confessed to being moved by the warm farewells he received from the team at the factory, describing his time with Mercedes as “the honor of my life.”
But now, it’s time to think about the holidays, likely shorter than expected, as he will be in Maranello as early as January to get better acquainted with Ferrari.
Is he already realizing the changes this will bring?
“Honestly, no.”
“I remember at the beginning of the year, I was printing the contract, and I couldn’t believe it was actually going to happen.”
“It’s been an incredibly, incredibly, incredibly long year. It was difficult to approach the announcement and then, of course, the relationship.”
“A lot of turbulence, a lot of ups and downs with people I’ve worked with for so many years.”
“Handling all of that was incredibly, incredibly, incredibly challenging throughout the year. There are so many people, and it impacted everyone.”
“Getting through that tough and turbulent period, then coming back and reaching a point where love shines through.”
“Beyond the disappointment and people saying, ‘I can’t imagine you in red,’ now they just say, ‘I wish you all the best, thank you so much for everything we’ve done,’ and there are tears…”
“It’s truly beautiful. Honestly, I will be forever grateful to this team, every member here, every member at the factory; it has been the honor of my life to be part of it.”
“And I can’t believe I’m going to Ferrari and wearing red next year. It’s a color that suits me well, so I hope we can achieve great things together.”
