Ferrari’s Fred Vasseur emphasizes Hamilton’s value beyond performance, dismissing pressure concerns while spotlighting his experience and winning mindset.
Fred Vasseur confirmed that recruiting Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari is not solely about performance. The Scuderia’s team principal emphasized that the seven-time world champion’s philosophy and experience will be ideal for the Maranello team.
“When it comes to Lewis, it’s not just about speed or pure performance,” Vasseur explained. “He will bring the experience of a seven-time champion who has worked with great teams.”
“It’s very beneficial for a team to have someone who brings diverse experiences, especially at Lewis’s level. We need the right approach to fully leverage his experience. It’s always important to learn from the outside, whether it’s Hamilton or anyone else.”
“I know Hamilton very well, I know his motivations and his way of working. I don’t want to compare him to other drivers, but I’m confident he will fit perfectly into our system.”
The Frenchman is unfazed by the spotlight this recruitment will bring to the team or the expectations that come with it: “Yes, there will be a lot of attention around us, but that must not distract us from our sole objective, which is to win.”
“We don’t fear having more pressure than we already do, and personally, I’m constantly under scrutiny and always striving to improve. I’m never satisfied; I put pressure on myself. Even in the lower categories, there are significant responsibilities, as the quality of a decision can mean the team’s success or failure.”
“Ultimately, only Sunday’s results matter in terms of survival—not just from a sporting perspective, but also for securing the staff’s jobs.”
“We live under constant pressure, and I’ve faced intense pressure for the past 35 years. Over time, I’ve become less emotional, which helps me manage situations more effectively.”
