Colapinto and Albon Endure Brutal Day for Williams F1

Triple Crashes Deal Crushing Blow to Williams F1 Championship Bid

03/11/2024

Williams F1 faced devastating setbacks as crashes struck Colapinto and Albon, derailing their championship ambitions in a turbulent Brazilian GP.

Franco Colapinto was the sole Williams F1 driver to start in Brazil following multiple crashes in qualifying.

The Argentine added to the team’s repair bill with another heavy crash during the race, further damaging his FW46.

“I’m really saddened for the team after what happened today. It was a tough day for everyone, and things just didn’t go as we’d hoped.”

“The team did an incredible job getting my car back on track for the race after the qualifying accident, so I’m truly sorry to end the day like this.”

“We had a quick car and aimed to make the most of every opportunity in the race. We ran on intermediates, and as I pushed to get the tyre temperatures up, I lost control on one of the large water streams across the track. We’ll pull through together as a team. Alpine F1 has dealt us a blow in the championship, but we still have three races left to go.”

Meanwhile, Alex Albon was forced to withdraw after causing substantial damage to his FW46 during this morning’s qualifying session.

“It’s obviously a very frustrating day. I can only feel sorry for the team, knowing how much damage in recent weeks has put us in a challenging position for the final three races.”

“Unsurprisingly, the past few weeks have been extremely challenging, but I finally felt that we had regained our pace and were in a strong position; the qualifying pace was solid, and I felt comfortable with the car.”

“I really didn’t expect the incident at Turn 1 to happen, so we need to closely analyse the situation to understand what went wrong. It’s disappointing because this could have been a fantastic opportunity to score points, knowing that coming to Brazil always holds the potential for a chaotic race, but it was our rivals who managed to capitalise.”

“I know it hasn’t been easy for the team, but it’s in moments like these that we must show resilience and try to find the positives. On the bright side, the car was fast, and I started to rediscover my rhythm, so let’s fight hard in these last three races and see where we end up in the Constructors’ Championship.”
