Alonso Secures Q3 Return, Eyes Points for Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso celebrates a strong Q3 showing and sets his sights on securing crucial points for Aston Martin in Qatar.

Fernando Alonso was thrilled to return to Q3 with his Aston Martin AMR24 tonight in Qatar.

The Spaniard will start from 8th position and hopes to boost the team’s points tally, which has remained stuck at 86 for the last four races.

“I’m happy we made it to Q3 in tonight’s qualifying session, and the car performed better than in any other session this weekend. We couldn’t improve in the Sprint, but we made some setup changes after that, and everything seems to be working as planned.”

“The team did a great job managing that and handling the traffic during a busy qualifying session. It’s a good starting position for tomorrow, and overtaking here is tough, so I hope we can translate this performance into the race.”

Lance Stroll was on pace with his teammate but made a costly mistake in Q2. He will start 15th.

“I had a big moment in Turn 1 on my final Q2 lap and lost around half a second. I don’t think the tires were in the right window at the start of the lap because I just didn’t have the grip, so that ended my chances of making Q3.”

“In hindsight, we should have done a much faster out-lap. The car felt more competitive in qualifying after some setup changes following the Sprint, so even though it was tight out there, I think there was more potential.”

“The race is generally harder for us since our car is quite tough on tires, but we’ll see how it goes tomorrow.”
