From Last to Seventh: Tsunoda Hails RB F1’s Turnaround

23/11/2024

Yuki Tsunoda praises RB F1’s stunning recovery, rising from last in FP1 to seventh in Las Vegas GP qualifying.

Yuki Tsunoda secured the seventh-fastest time in qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The RB F1 driver expressed delight at how his team managed to turn around a challenging situation from the opening practice sessions of the weekend.

“I delivered good laps in Q2, and it was great for all of us to find ourselves in this position after being 19th and 20th in FP1. Session by session, we turned things around, and not every team can do that,” said Tsunoda.

“Looking ahead, if it happens again, we’ll have proof that we’ve done it before, which will give us confidence. Well done to the team. The Haas cars and Pierre did a great job, and we need to stay close to them in the championship.”

The Japanese driver now aims to convert this result into points tomorrow: “It won’t be easy; I didn’t expect Q3. It won’t be straightforward, but we’ll do our best. You never know what might happen—there were safety cars last year, and with these temperatures, anything is possible.”

Liam Lawson, who was eliminated in Q2, abandoned his flying lap after making an error: “I struggled, wasn’t really improving, and I don’t know why we had so little grip. I slid a lot in Turn 13 and need to understand why.”

Currently 15th, Lawson believes there was room for improvement: “It’s been a tough weekend with these conditions on such a unique track. But that’s no excuse; we’re all on the same circuit, and I’ll try to improve the car and make progress.”
