F1 drivers report a persistent marijuana odor around Las Vegas, sparking humor and concern about its effect during the weekend.
Franco Colapinto joked in Las Vegas, saying he hoped not to undergo doping tests this weekend.
Red Bull driver Sergio Perez was the first in the paddock on Thursday evening to point out a noticeable smell lingering in the air of “Sin City.”
“What’s very noticeable around the circuit is the smell of marijuana all night,” he said.
“I’m already a bit fed up with it — the amount is incredible. It’s something all the drivers will definitely talk about.”
While public consumption of marijuana is illegal in Nevada, retail sale of marijuana is legal and can be purchased at several licensed dispensaries in Las Vegas and used in authorized cannabis lounges.
“Yes, there is a smell of marijuana,” confirmed Colapinto, who crashed out in Q2 today.
“If they test the drivers now, I think we’ll all test positive, I swear.”
