Williams F1 capitalizes on a crucial three-week break, aiming to deliver their strongest performance yet at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Alex Albon thanked the Williams F1 team for their efforts since the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, where both he and his teammate caused significant damage to the cars. At Grove, the pace has been intense to get both cars back into shape.
“It’s been a lot of hard work over the past few weeks. We know Vegas is our best chance to score points, and being the first race of a triple-header has made things challenging,” Albon said.
“In terms of pace, we could be quick, but we were quite slow in the race. We had a lot of degradation, and we need to look at the data to improve. There was more graining, but we think we have a good solution for that.”
The Thai driver also explained the mental challenges of not competing: “The hardest part was understanding why the crash happened. We looked into the data, figured it out, and moved on. As for the car specs, everything remains the same.”
Franco Colapinto revealed that while the mechanics were busy repairing the cars, he and Albon focused on preparing for the Las Vegas Grand Prix with extensive simulator work.
“We’ve worked relentlessly since then. We’ve done a lot of work in the simulator, and it’s gone well. We’re stronger than ever as a team. It was a tough weekend in Brazil, but we’ve come back stronger, and the people at the factory have done an amazing job,” said Colapinto.
“It’s been three long weeks, but we needed it! We’re trying to make the most of every opportunity we have left until Abu Dhabi. I’m very grateful for the work that’s been done, and it’s great to have the cars ready here.”
While Gabriel Bortoleto has signed with Sauber, Colapinto doesn’t seem too worried about finding a spot for next year: “I’m not too aware of what’s happening for me next season. Gabriel is a great guy, very fast, and he deserves this move. But of course, I hope we’ll find a place too.”
