Verstappen climbs from 9th to win Miami GP

Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen made a remarkable comeback from ninth place on the grid, taking the checkered flag at the Miami Grand Prix, ahead of Red Bull teammate and title rival Sergio Perez.
Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen successfully climbed from the ninth position on the grid to triumph over Red Bull teammate and title competitor Sergio Perez at the Miami Grand Prix.
Despite not setting a Q3 lap due to an initial error and a red flag caused by Charles Leclerc’s crash, Verstappen displayed outstanding performance, closing the four-second gap to Perez by lap 15 of 57.
Verstappen’s impressive maneuvers were primarily executed using DRS on the lengthy back straight, culminating in a memorable pass of both Charles Leclerc and Kevin Magnussen.
Starting with medium tires, Perez switched to harder ones on lap 21, while Verstappen, who began with hard tires, changed to medium ones on lap 45.
Although Perez initially caught up to Verstappen on his new hard tires, as the race progressed, Perez’s pace waned, and it became evident that Verstappen would secure the win.
Upon exiting his pitstop, Verstappen trailed Perez by only 1.6 seconds, and with softer, fresher tires, the change of lead and another Verstappen victory was inevitable.
Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin claimed third place on the podium, with Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari and George Russell’s Mercedes overtaking Sainz during the second stint on hard tires. Russell finished fourth, and Lewis Hamilton placed sixth after starting in 13th.
Leclerc’s battle with Magnussen lasted 38 laps, but eventually, Leclerc lost sixth place to Hamilton.
Magnussen managed to secure a point in 10th place, following Gasly and Esteban Ocon. In contrast, McLaren’s disappointing qualifying foreshadowed an equally dismal race, with Oscar Piastri finishing 19th due to brake concerns and Lando Norris placing 17th after an encounter with Nyck de Vries.
