F1 practice session at the Miami Grand Prix, George Russell dominates the first Formula 1 practice session, securing a Mercedes one-two finish, while a dramatic crash by Nico Hulkenberg results in a red flag, halting the action on the track.

In the first F1 practice at the Miami GP, George Russell secured the lead in a Mercedes one-two, while a crash by Nico Hulkenberg in his Haas at Turn 3 prompted a red flag.

Approximately 35 minutes into FP1, Hulkenberg navigated the first corner successfully but veered off course at Turn 2, ultimately losing control of his VF-23 and colliding with the Turn 3 barriers in reverse. This incident not only ended Hulkenberg’s session while he held second place behind championship leader Max Verstappen, but also resulted in the session’s only red flag.

When the session resumed, Verstappen improved his performance but was overtaken by both Mercedes drivers and Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari. Russell finished with the fastest time of 1m30.125s, outpacing teammate Lewis Hamilton by 0.220 seconds and Leclerc by an additional tenth of a second.

Verstappen’s fastest lap, set earlier in the session, left him more than four tenths behind Russell. Meanwhile, Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez lagged a full second behind Verstappen’s time, ultimately ranking 11th.

Carlos Sainz secured two Ferraris in the top five, followed by Pierre Gasly of Alpine and Aston Martin drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Despite his crash, Hulkenberg’s best time before the incident earned him ninth place, ahead of Esteban Ocon’s second Alpine, which rounded out the top 10.

Perez took 11th place, followed by Oscar Piastri in the leading McLaren and Kevin Magnussen in the second Haas.
