Sainz laughs off unfounded Audi rumors

Is Carlos Sainz considering a move to Audi after his contract with Ferrari ends in 2024? Rumors have been circulating, but the F1 driver recently denied them in an interview with MARCA. Audi is set to join the F1 grid in 2026, which could make them a viable option for Sainz. However, with his contract not even secured for 2025, he expressed annoyance at the unverified rumors.
Carlos Sainz has denied rumors that suggest he might leave Ferrari for Audi in the near future. Audi is set to join the F1 grid in 2026 after acquiring Alfa Romeo/Sauber. As per the new engine regulations in three years, Audi will create and develop its own power unit.
Considering Valtteri Bottas’ recent performance slump and the unsuitability of Zhou Guanyu as a long-term option for a factory team such as Audi, it seems probable that Audi will search for alternatives elsewhere. A report from BLICK suggests that Carlos Sainz, whose contract with Ferrari expires at the end of 2024, is among the top contenders. Another potential reason why Sainz to Audi could be a viable option is that Andreas Seidl, who previously collaborated with Sainz at McLaren, has taken over as CEO of Sauber at the beginning of this year.
In an interview with Spanish publication MARCA, Sainz dismissed the rumors with a critical response. He expressed his surprise at hearing about potential moves for 2026 when he doesn’t even have a contract for 2025. Sainz also expressed annoyance at the unverified rumors and found it amusing that people invent such stories.
Sainz added that nobody will ever approach the journalist to verify the rumor. He stated that his aim is to remain with Ferrari for an extended period as he is content there and living his dream. He emphasized that staying with Ferrari is his goal.
Sainz’s teammate at Ferrari, Charles Leclerc, is also set to be out of contract at the end of 2024. Despite being rumored as a possible replacement for Lewis Hamilton, who might retire from F1, Leclerc has repeatedly expressed that driving for Ferrari has always been his dream.
