Perez’s Brake Troubles May Impact Red Bull’s Performance in Melbourne GP

Sergio Perez’s Qualifying Woes Continue with Crash at Australian Grand Prix Due to Technical Issue.
Sergio Perez expressed that he lost control and was unable to steer during the first part of Formula 1 qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix, causing him to crash.
He had a difficult time during final practice with multiple instances of going off-track, and this carried over into qualifying.
While attempting to set a competitive time in Q1, Perez experienced a heavy lock-up while turning right at Turn 3, which resulted in him sliding off the track and becoming stuck in the gravel trap. Consequently, his session ended early, and he will be starting in 20th place.
Following his win at the Saudi Arabian GP, Sergio Perez is currently only one point behind his Red Bull teammate, Max Verstappen, in the drivers’ championship.
Regarding the crash that occurred during the Australian Grand Prix qualifying, Perez attributed it to a technical issue that arose in FP3.
Despite attempting to address the problem, it persisted and made it challenging for Perez to maneuver during the session. As soon as he applied the brakes, Perez lost control and felt like he was merely a passenger in the car.

According to Perez, the technical issue in question alters the brake balance significantly towards the front when he brakes.
He expressed hope that his team would be able to resolve the issue before the grand prix to limit any negative impact. Although he did not elaborate on the problem, Perez stated that he had complete faith in his team’s ability to fix it correctly, enabling him to perform well in the race.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner shared that the team was investigating a potential issue that could have caused Perez to crash into the gravel during Q1, which occurred after he had pushed hard. Horner acknowledged that Perez had a challenging day overall.
Horner believes that replicating Verstappen’s performance from the previous race, where he moved up to second place from 15th on the grid, will be more challenging for Perez in Melbourne. This is due to the lack of passing opportunities on the track, making it more difficult to overtake and climb up the grid.
Perez also agreed that overtaking would be tough. He acknowledged that the close margin in qualifying highlights the competitiveness of the Red Bull’s rivals and how essential it is to perform well in every race.
