Mike Krack Reveals Congratulatory Message from Vettel

Former Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel congratulated the team on their podium finish in the Bahrain Grand Prix, revealing a mutual respect between him and the team’s boss, Mike Krack.
Mike Krack, the boss of Aston Martin’s racing team, disclosed that he was sent a message of congratulations by their ex-driver Sebastian Vettel after the team’s podium finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, which marked the beginning of the F1 season. Vettel, who had been driving for Aston Martin in 2021 and 2022, retired from Formula One at the end of the previous year, making way for Fernando Alonso to join the team.
Despite the remarkable progress that Aston Martin made over the winter, it was unfortunate timing for Sebastian Vettel, as the team has achieved podium finishes in the first two rounds of the 2023 F1 season.
During an episode of the F1 Nation Podcast, Mike Krack mentioned that he and Sebastian Vettel have been in contact. Krack stated that they exchanged messages for the New Year, and after Aston Martin’s first podium finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Vettel reached out to congratulate the team. Krack praised Vettel for his sportsmanship, describing him as “very gentleman-like.”
Krack further added that he had always acknowledged Vettel’s contribution to Aston Martin’s progress. According to Krack, Vettel’s time with the team had elevated them in many areas, and they had learned a lot and made significant progress. Krack believed that Vettel played a role in bringing the team up a level over the previous two years.
Krack also mentioned that Vettel was content with his decision to retire from Formula One despite his contribution to Aston Martin’s progress. Krack stated that Vettel was aware of his decision when he made it and did not have any regrets. Although Vettel played a crucial part in Aston Martin’s success, he was comfortable with his decision to step away from the sport.
Krack emphasized that Vettel’s congratulatory message after Aston Martin’s podium finish demonstrated the mutual respect between Vettel, the team, and himself. Krack expressed his appreciation for Vettel’s gesture and revealed that he relayed the message to the entire team.
Krack also revealed that Aston Martin considered the possibility of asking Vettel to make a surprise return to the team, as Lance Stroll was struggling with fitness issues ahead of the season due to a cycling accident. Krack admitted that they were tempted to reach out to Vettel to see if he would be willing to come back, given his previous experience with the team.
Krack confirmed that the team was indeed tempted to approach Vettel for a return, but ultimately decided against it out of respect for Vettel and the decision he made to retire from Formula One. Krack reiterated that they held Vettel in high regard and did not want to pressure him into anything he was not comfortable with, given his earlier decision to step away from the sport.
Krack stated that it would not have been appropriate to ask Vettel to return to the team, as they wanted to respect his decision to retire from Formula One. Krack emphasized that they did not want to make Vettel uncomfortable by putting him in a difficult position. Therefore, Aston Martin decided to move forward with their current lineup and not approach Vettel for a potential return.
