FP3 - Aston Martin Emerges as Strongest Team after Red Bull

Max Verstappen, the defending Formula 1 world champion, delivered a masterful performance by topping all practice sessions for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah. Red Bull showed their superiority with Verstappen holding a significant lead over his competitors. Meanwhile, Aston Martin emerged as the strongest team after Red Bull, and Lewis Hamilton showcased an improved performance despite facing challenges during Friday’s practice session. Here are the key highlights from the practice sessions.

Max Verstappen, the defending Formula 1 world champion, secured a flawless performance by topping all practice sessions for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix held in Jeddah. Verstappen held a significant lead of six tenths over his competitors, indicating that Red Bull was significantly ahead of the others. Meanwhile, Aston Martin once again emerged as the strongest team after Red Bull, while Lewis Hamilton showcased improvement in his performance after facing difficulties during Friday’s practice session.

Even though Max Verstappen used hard tires compared to his teammate Sergio Perez, who used soft tires, Verstappen was already close in time, trailing Perez by just one-tenth of a second after their initial runs. However, Verstappen switched to the red-walled compound during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix practice session and was unstoppable, proving to be unbeatable by his rivals.

During the practice session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was briefly under investigation for potentially obstructing Lando Norris of the McLaren team. Verstappen acknowledged his mistake by raising his hand in apology. However, the stewards eventually ruled that no further action was required. Verstappen went on to extend his lead over his teammate Sergio Perez by more than six tenths of a second, thanks to a late improvement in his performance.

Although Max Verstappen maintained a significant lead over his teammate Sergio Perez, Perez was still in a comfortable second position during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix practice session, with a comfortable gap of four-tenths of a second ahead of the closely-matched duo of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll from the Aston Martin team.

Despite experiencing some discomfort during Friday’s practice session, Lewis Hamilton managed to improve his performance and secure fifth place during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix practice session. He lapped three-tenths of a second faster than his Mercedes teammate George Russell. This performance resulted in five other drivers coming between Hamilton and Russell on the timesheet.

The five drivers who slotted in between Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes teammate George Russell during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix practice session were Charles Leclerc from Ferrari, who had a 10-place grid penalty for the weekend. The McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, and Charles Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz also managed to place ahead of Russell.

The time difference between Fernando Alonso in third place and Valtteri Bottas from Alfa Romeo in 18th position was just 0.834 seconds during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix practice session. This is in contrast to the time difference of 0.998 seconds between Max Verstappen, who topped the timesheets, and Alonso, who was in third place.

Yuki Tsunoda, who finished in 19th place during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix practice session, was essentially the last driver on the timesheet. This is because his teammate, Nyck de Vries, was absent from the session due to an engine issue that the AlphaTauri team detected during the lead-up to the practice session, which required a change. As a result, Tsunoda was the only representative of the AlphaTauri team in the session.
