For the first time, the car that was destroyed in Romain Grosjean’s fiery crash at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix will be put on display. During the race’s first lap, the French driver had a frightening accident when he collided with Daniil Kvyat, resulting in a horrifying crash into the barriers.

The Haas car that Grosjean was driving was completely split in two and burst into flames, having ripped through the triple-guardrail barrier at 119mph, generating a maximum impact force of 67G. Despite sustaining burns to both hands, Grosjean managed to escape from the wreckage in an incredible feat.

Next month, the F1 Exhibition experience in Madrid will feature the charred remains of the VF-20 chassis from Grosjean’s crash.

Grosjean recently spoke with the F1 Exhibition team and reflected on the accident, stating that while he experienced a significant impact, he was unaware of the severity of the crash from an outsider’s perspective. He only realized how intense it was the following day when he requested to see a video of the incident.

During the race, Grosjean’s wife and children were watching, along with his father, and the crash will be a memory that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Grosjean explained that his family was among the spectators anxiously awaiting news and updates about the Bahrain Grand Prix when the crash occurred.

Grosjean recounted how he realized that his left foot was trapped in the chassis after the crash, and he had to pull hard on his leg to free himself. Although his shoe remained stuck in the car, he was able to escape.

The car had 120 kilograms of fuel and a battery, both of which were on fire. Dr. Jan Roberts, Alan from the medical car, and a fireman worked to create an opening in the flames to assist Grosjean in escaping. This allowed him to have a visual of where he needed to go and where the exit was located.

Grosjean credited the survival cell for protecting him during the high-impact crash. Despite the damage and burns, the chassis remained in one piece, and the halo structure helped to keep him safe. Grosjean believes that this protective equipment played a significant role in saving his life.
