Gasly Experiences the New Alpine for the First Time During the Shakedown

The Alpine team has joined the list of F1 teams that have completed a shakedown prior to the start of the new season.
Esteban Ocon and his new teammate Pierre Gasly took turns behind the wheel of the A523 at Silverstone in preparation for the car’s official unveiling in London on February 16th.
Gasly completed a total of nine laps on the British Grand Prix circuit, while Ocon completed eight, as the team reached the maximum 100 kilometers allowed for this early systems check of the new car.
After a successful day without any issues, Ocon stated: “It’s only when you return to the track in a Formula 1 car that you realize how much you’ve missed it.”
Ocon added: “It was a privilege to drive the A523 and personally experience all the hard work and advancements that have been made with this car.”
Ocon expressed his gratitude: “A huge thank you to everyone at Viry and Enstone for achieving this milestone and for the opportunity to see the car on the track for the first time.”
Ocon concluded: “The first lap is always a memorable moment, and I’m happy that the day went smoothly.”

Expressing his thoughts on his first time driving the car after his winter transfer from AlphaTauri, Gasly commented: “It’s an incredible feeling to be driving again, especially with my new Alpine colors.”
Gasly added: “Today was about getting a preliminary feel for the car and I have to say, it felt very positive during the laps I drove.”
Gasly continued: “I’m aware that everyone on the team has put in a lot of hard work over the winter to develop the car, and it’s a proud moment to be driving it and to see the expressions of everyone in the garage.”
The Technical Director, Matt Harman, described the day as “another milestone achieved” for the team, especially considering the smooth progress of the day’s activities.
Harman further stated: “Esteban drove first in the morning to ensure all the systems were functioning properly and also to complete the standard installation procedure for the car.”
Harman continued: “In the afternoon, Pierre was in the car for the first time in the A523 and completed eight steady laps to get a preliminary sense of his new environment.”
Harman concluded: “These types of days are of course restricted and not indicative of the actual performance, but we had a fantastic day and we’re now looking forward to testing in Bahrain where we anticipate continuing to gather knowledge about the 2023 car.”
