F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali Shocked by Turkey Earthquake, Over 1000 Dead, Rescue Operation Underway.
Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula One, expressed his shock at the devastating earthquake that occurred in Turkey.
Efforts to rescue survivors are being carried out in Southern Turkey and Northern Syria following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck near Gaziantep on Monday morning.
The earthquake has claimed the lives of over 1000 individuals, and ongoing aftershocks are exacerbating the already challenging situation.
Later in the morning, a 7.5-magnitude aftershock occurred, causing an estimated minimum of 5300 individuals to sustain injuries.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Turkey assisted Formula One in fulfilling its schedule, and the return race in 2020 was held there, resulting in Lewis Hamilton securing his seventh world championship, tying the record.
Domenicali stated that Turkey holds a special place in the heart of F1, with its many amazing people, and the recent tragedy has left them all in shock. They offer their prayers for the victims and the people of Turkey.
Domenicali made the following statement: “Turkey holds a significant place in the hearts of Formula One due to its amazing people.”
“The terrible tragedy that has befallen the country has left us all in disbelief and we offer our prayers for the victims and the people of Turkey.”
F1 has held races in Turkey 9 times, with winners including Kimi Raikkonen (2005), Felipe Massa 2006-2008, Jenson Button 2009, Lewis Hamilton 2010, and Sebastian Vettel 2011.
After a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race returned in 2020 and 2021, and saw wins from Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
F1Lead extends their condolences to the people of Syria and Turkey affected by the devastating earthquake. The extent of destruction is shocking, as seen through the coverage on Sky.
