Ekström “champion of champions” at the ROC 2023 for the fourth time

Ekström has become the “champion of champions” at the ROC 2023 for the fourth time.

After the ROC Nations Cup on Saturday – which was won by the Norwegian team of Petter and Oliver Solberg – the individual Race of Champions competition also took place today.

Ekström and Schumacher, three-time winners of the ROC, faced off in the first round of the final with Polaris. Ekström emerged victorious in the first round.

Ekstrom, a champion in both RallyCross and DTM, won his fourth Race of Champions title on home soil by convincingly defeating Schumacher 2-0 in the final.

Ekstrom’s victory was all the more remarkable as he had to contend with a small fire in the cockpit of his car during the final race, which he quickly put out using his glove. Despite this, the Swede was able to secure the title in impressive fashion.

Schumacher put in an impressive performance, including winning against Felipe Drugovich in the quarterfinals, and beating Sebastian Vettel in the semifinals, before being defeated by Ekstrom in the final.

After a disappointing performance in the Nations’ Cup by the Team Finland lineup of Mika Hakkinen and Valtteri Bottas, they were once again eliminated in the first round of the competition.

Valtteri Bottas was unable to beat Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen, and two-time Formula 1 World Champion Mika Hakkinen was defeated by the reigning Formula 2 champion, Felipe Drugovich.

Williams development driver Jamie Chadwick was defeated by Sebastian Vettel in the quarterfinals, and former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard was eliminated by France’s Adrien Tambay in the preliminary round.
