E-Prix 2023 – Dennis wins in Mexico City

Jake Dennis was the dominant force in the race and emerged victorious, marking the first win of the Gen3 era. Pascal Wehrlein secured the second spot while Lucas DiGrassi finished third.
In Mexico, Jake Dennis clinched the first win of the Formula E season by defeating Lucas Di Grassi, who had the advantage of starting the race from pole position, which was crucial for him.
At the start of the race, Di Grassi held onto his pole position and kept the lead in the initial laps. Meanwhile, Jake Hughes and Jake Dennis engaged in a close fight for second place, but it was the latter who eventually emerged as the stronger contender. The race was interrupted by a safety car after Robin Frijns had a severe collision with another car, causing him to break his wrist.
Shortly after the safety car left the track, Sam Bird and Norman Nato had to retire, prompting another yellow flag. Despite the eventful start, the race continued with plenty of action on the track. Jake Dennis made a move on Di Grassi and overtook him effortlessly, claiming the lead of the race.
Stoffel Vandoorne, the current world champion, faced difficulties in qualifying and failed to secure a spot in the top ten. He continued to struggle in the race and was still in the 11th position after driving for more than half the race. Meanwhile, his teammate Jean-Éric Vergne was one position ahead of him.
During the race, Edoardo Mortara caused another yellow flag due to his car crashing into the wall after losing control. The incident caused his car to become uncontrollable, ultimately leading to his withdrawal from the Mexican race.
At this point in the race, Jake Dennis was feeling confident about his performance. His lead over Di Grassi had widened to more than four seconds, providing him with some breathing space. Nevertheless, with strong contenders like Jake Hughes and Pascal Wehrlein following close behind, he knew he had to remain focused and sharp.

Towards the end of the race, Pascal Wehrlein made a move on Di Grassi and took over the second position. However, the gap between Wehrlein and Dennis remained significant, and Di Grassi continued to push hard to reclaim his spot.
The final phase of the race was intense as the leading drivers pushed hard to improve their positions. In the end, Jake Dennis secured the victory, with Pascal Wehrlein and Lucas Di Grassi finishing second and third, respectively. André Lotterer and Jake Hughes completed the top five positions.
