Alonso is defying age expectations in Formula 1

Fernando Alonso’s exceptional performance in Formula 1 is a testament to his talent, defying age expectations and proving that experience and skill trump age in this high-octane sport.
Fernando Alonso has consistently rebuffed any insinuations or queries about his age having a detrimental effect on his comeback to Formula 1, responding candidly and resolutely.
In the event of his victory, Fernando Alonso would become the first driver in his forties to accomplish this feat since Nigel Mansell in 1994.
The fact has always appeared to catch Fernando Alonso off guard, as he has previously mentioned achieving his best fitness levels and humorously pointed out that race classifications are not determined by a driver’s age on their passport.
Mark Webber commended Fernando Alonso for his remarkable ability to maintain a high level of performance in Formula 1, even at the age of 41, as he prepares to embark on his 20th season in the sport.
According to Mark Webber, a former Red Bull driver, Fernando Alonso’s transition from Alpine to Aston Martin during the off-season has resulted in a noteworthy change in the driver lineup, signifying the start of a new chapter in the accomplished career of Alonso.
Following Sebastian Vettel’s retirement announcement last summer, Fernando Alonso, the Spanish driver, has assumed his position.
Mark Webber stated, “Sebastian Vettel’s decision to retire was not entirely unexpected, but Fernando Alonso’s departure was a significant shock, setting off a chain reaction.”
“The sequence of driver changes was set in motion by Fernando Alonso’s departure, since the previous season had witnessed just one alteration in the driver lineup, with Zhou Guanyu taking over from Antonio Giovinazzi at Alfa Romeo,” explained Webber.
Webber stated, “The driver market can be quite steady and unfortunately so at times, which was evident at the conclusion of 2021 when Oscar [Piastri] was ready to move up.”
Webber clarified that Fernando Alonso’s departure created an opportunity for new drivers. Oscar Piastri, who is represented by Webber, won a highly contested bidding war with Alpine and secured a racing position with McLaren, replacing Alonso.
Although excited about the influx of young talent on the grid, including rookies Nyck de Vries of AlphaTauri and Logan Sargeant of Williams, Channel 4 pundit Mark Webber admits that it is Alonso who continues to capture his attention. At 21 years old, Piastri is one of the three rookies making their debut in the sport.
According to Webber, while there will be several new driver lineups, the initial excitement will soon wear off. Nonetheless, he remains optimistic about the upcoming testing and team reshuffling. He predicts that the top three teams will stay competitive, but there will be a closely contested race for the fourth to seventh positions.
Webber expressed his enthusiasm for new talent in the sport, stating that newcomers are always a positive addition. However, he also acknowledged that observing Fernando Alonso’s exceptional performance at his age is truly remarkable.
Webber also expressed interest in observing Lewis Hamilton’s performance, stating, “We will have to wait and see how the Mercedes performs. That will play a key role in Hamilton’s drive to demonstrate his exceptional skills if Mercedes can deliver a competitive car.”
