FORMULA 1 2021 SEASON – PIRELLI UNVEILS TIRE CHOICES FOR ALL 23 GPS

Pirelli Motorsport surprisingly announced all the tire choices made for the 23 Grand Prix that make up the 2021 Formula 1 calendar to date.
Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has outlined the compound choices it has made for all of the 23 grands prix planned to take place in 2021.
Pirelli has been Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier since 2011 and under current regulations has five dry-weather compounds, from which three are taken to every event.
They range from C1 (hardest) to C5 (softest) and are labelled Hard, Medium and Soft at each event.
Formula 1 drivers have 13 sets of tyres available for each race weekend, and must run either the Hards or Mediums in the race, and save one set of Softs for use only in Q3.
Teams used to be allowed free choice of compound for 10 of their allocated 13 sets but due to logistical difficulties caused by the pandemic the regulations have been amended.
Each driver will have a fixed allocation of two Hard sets, three Mediums and eight Softs at every event.
Pirelli has previously revealed its compound choices in stages, owing to the previous 14-week deadline, but as this has been scrapped it has published its 2021 decisions in one go.
The C1s, C2s and C3s will be taken to Portugal, Spain, Britain, the Netherlands and Japan, where high energy loads are frequently put through the tyres.
The C3s, C4s and C5s – the softest combination – will be taken to Monaco, Azerbaijan, Canada, Russia, Singapore and Abu Dhabi.
At the remaining 12 events, making it the most common choice, the middle combination of C2s, C3s and C4s will be available.
Pirelli has moved one step softer than its choices for Azerbaijan and Brazil compared to 2019, when the events last run, and tweaks elsewhere have been minimal.
