HAMILTON NEW CONTRACT - VERSTAPPEN CLAUSE pURE INVENTION

Hamilton Contract – Italian Motorsport says the existence of the clause is “pure invention”, there is no ‘Verstappen clause’ in Lewis Hamilton’s new contract.

Although we don’t like to relay all of the rumours swirling around about Lewis Hamilton’s contract negotiations, this one we would like to acknowledge, as it actually shoots down the ‘Verstappen Clause’ nonsense that was being reported as news on numerous F1 news sites.

The rumoured clause in Lewis Hamilton’s new Mercedes contract would supposedly allow him to have a say in who his team-mate would be. It was implied that this clause was put into the contract because of Lewis’ supposed ‘fear’ of having Max Verstappen as a team-mate.

Our own Adrian Mann wrote yesterday about what a complete nonsense this story was and now Italian Motorsport also says the rumour is bogus. According to it.motorsport.com, the existence of the ‘Verstappen Clause’ is “pure invention”.

The publication goes on to say there is no truth to the rumours that Toto Wolff wants Max Verstappen in a Mercedes (which we also pointed out yesterday). They add another unconfirmed rumour to their story, saying Mercedes has already decided on who their next driver will be.

“His name is George Russell and not Max Verstappen,” the article claims.

They also wrote that Daimler Chairman of the Board of Management Ola Kallenius wants Russell to be Lewis Hamilton’s successor, following his fantastic performance at the Sakhir Grand Prix.

We’d like to point out everything written by Motorsport here is still just a rumour. However, we are fairly certain there will be no ‘Verstappen Clause’ in Lewis Hamilton’s new contract.
