A BETTER PACKAGE FOR MCLAREN – NORRIS SAYS ABOUT MERCEDES ENGINE

Lando Norris said early signs point to a car having a pretty solid package for the 2021 season. Additionally, the 2021 car is apparently much better than the Renault-powered 2019 MCL35.
McLaren has a deal with Mercedes until the 2024 season. They ran the Renault package for three years, starting in 2017 after a horrible partnership with Honda. Lando Norris made his comments about the new Mercedes package, saying he doesn’t think it will ‘complicate things.’
In 2021 McLaren will again be powered by Mercedes. Lando Norris says the new engine is “a better package” for his team than Renault was.
McLaren has enjoyed a famous and successful partnership with Mercedes from 1995 until 2013, a partnership that brought them three drivers’ and one constructors’ championship. The Woking outfit then spent a few years with Honda and, from 2018 onward, with Renault.
Now McLaren is set to return to their partnership with Mercedes, at least until 2024. Lando Norris believes the German power unit is a better option for the team.

“I think all round, it’s a better package,” Norris told Motorsport.
“It’s more power. Touch wood, it’s more reliability. It’s a slightly better-fitting package, so as just a whole, there’s a lot of positives about it.
“I’m not into everything, so I’m sure there are maybe some negatives there, and we have a good relationship with Renault, so things are very smooth now and we know them, and there’s going to be a lot of new things.
“I’m sure there’s going to be some things we have to understand and we’re not going to be quite as natural with just the mechanics and the engineers and how they understand everything. Of course they’ll do a great job in that transition in trying to understand it.
“There’s going to be some things which are a bit trickier, but as a package, it should be much better, and that gives us good confidence it will take us that little bit further towards the top,” concluded the young Briton.
With McLaren back in the fold, in 2021 four teams will be powered by Mercedes: the works team, Williams, Aston Martin and McLaren.
