DAKAR 2021 STAGE 11 - NASSER AL-ATTIYAH TAKES VICTORY

Dakar 2021 – Nasser Al-Attiyah has finished the special in front of Stéphane Peterhansel. The Frenchman has conceded a little less than two minutes to his Qatari rival.

As a result, Peterhansel will start the last stage with a lead of a quarter of an hour. It is a comfortable lead, but he will have to be careful on the 225-km special tomorrow that separates him from overall victory.

Nasser Al-Attiyah is not there. In the penultimate stage of the Dakar 2021 that took the caravan from Al-Ula to Yanbu, the Toyota Gazoo Racing team driver signed the fifth stage victory in this edition of the most famous rally raid in the world, continuing to keep alive the hopes of victory in the Auto class, although there is just one stage missing.

The Qatari was very good at keeping in touch with the best despite having opened today’s stage behind Yaeed Al Rajhi, winner yesterday. In the second part of the stage Al-Attiyah broke the delay, overtaking Stéphane Peterhansel and going to win yet another stage of his race.

Although Al-Attiyah is by far the most successful driver of this Dakar in terms of stages (5 against 2 for Sainz and Al Rajhi), he is still behind the leader of the general classification, Stéphane Peterhansel. After the attack carried out in the last few days, the MINI driver has begun to manage the lead, now down to 15’05 “with one stage to go.

To win, Al-Attiyah will need a disastrous stage on the part of the expert Peterhansel, beyond being aware of having to give everything to put pressure on the 13-time Dakar winner. Carlos Sainz continues to occupy the third position of the general classification, by now consolidated for several days after exiting the fight for success due to several punctures and, above all, unforeseeable navigation problems.

Jakub Prygonski, on the other hand, remains fourth ahead of Nani Roma. The Spaniard, however, now feels the breath on Khalid Al Qassimi’s neck. The Abu Dhabi Racing team rider remained all day in the important positions of the stage, even going close to winning it. In the last WP alone he slowed down, losing over 14 minutes to Al-Attiyah.

Very good once again Yazeed Al Rajhi, who is confirming the best surprise of this second week of competition. Too bad that the Saudi of the Overdrive Toyota team has lost the chance to fight for the Top 5 since the first week due to numerous problems. Giniel De Villiers is also on the same line as Al Rajhi, fifth and eighth in the general classification today.
