DAKAR
RESULTS OF THE FIRST WEEK OF THE DAKAR RALLY 2021 IN SAUDI ARABIA

The bivouac will take a one-day break in Ha’il, located in the center of the Saudi desert, and resume the race on Sunday. The Dakar reaches the halfway point and, as usual, observes its day of rest.
The opportunity for teams and drivers to recharge their batteries, but at the same time sharpen their weapons and then leave again. The appointment is for tomorrow morning, when the caravan will leave Ha’il to set off towards Sakaka, or the seventh stage.
Then the long journey to Jeddah will begin from there, where the winner of the 43rd edition will be announced next Saturday.
Awaiting the riders will be over 3000 km to cover divided into seven stages, two of which will be Marathon, i.e. without assistance. We are talking about the specials on Sunday and Monday, which could shake up the ranking and give twists.
The fact is that after the first part of the race, this Dakar is still looking for a master, since to date no one has yet been able to dig the groove in the general. Despite three stage wins, Barreda the Hondas in fact occupy the seventh position just over six minutes from the leader of the general, or Toby Price.
At the moment the Australian is dictating the pace, but as mentioned the gaps are contained, since the first of the pursuers, that is Kevin Benavides with Honda, accuses only 2 minutes and sixteen from the KTM standard bearer. And what about Ignacio Cornejo, who is 41 seconds behind his teammate.
In the upper floors there is also the Ross Branch’s Yamaha, as well as Quintanilla’s Husqvarna plus Sam Sunderland con the KTM. Also forbidden to forget the reigning champion of the raid, Ricky Brabec, currently out of the top ten with almost 20 minutes late from the top.
The gap is substantial, but cutting him out of the game would be a serious mistake. Instead he will race to keep the KTM brand high, Matthias Walkner, who lost two hours of time due to a technical problem, sinking into 24th position. Finally, a note of merit for the best of the blues, that is Maurizio Gerini, which in the saddle of the Husqvarna appears in the first thirty after this first week.
The first week of the Dakar rally is over and the drivers are given a rest day in Saudi Arabia. A perfect moment to see which drivers are in the top ten in every category.
