MERCEDES NEW ENGINE IN 2021

Mercedes New Engine in 2021 – Most teams have switched their focus to 2021 by now but there will likely be consequences based on how long each team continued their development.

F1 is keeping fundamental car components the same for 2021 but aerodynamic development is free and there are significant rule changes at the rear of the floor that will reduce the downforce produced by the cars.

As well as the benefit of starting this work earlier, there will be a knock-on effect for 2022 and F1’s new technical rules as well.

This year, teams will operate with a budget cap and tighter aerodynamic development restrictions being enforced in 2021.

Now rumors are circulating that Mercedes has already developed a power source for this year that can add another twenty five horsepower.

The Mercedes F1 team has been dominant for years. According to the latest rumors, there is even a power source on the test bench. New alloys and a new combustion chamber, among other things, should provide an extra twenty five horsepower, according to the Italian branch of Motorsport.

The more 2021 development is completed this year, the more a team can use its time and money next year on the 2022 rules, which cannot be worked on until next year.

Halfway through the season 2020, Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, said that Mercedes was not developing the W11 anymore because the team was already sure to win both the drivers’ and the teams’ World Championships.

Since the German team stopped working on their car, they could already focus on the new one, which will compete in the 2021 season. One of the main parts of the car on which Mercedes wanted to focus was the engine.

That seems true actually. In fact, the 2021 power unit is expected to have 25hp more compared to the one used last year. That would mean that Mercedes’ power unit could reach 1050hp in total.

Finally, during the season, Toto Wolff said that Mercedes’ goal for 2021 was to use “Party Mode” throughout the whole race after the new regulations were applied from Monza.
