ALFA ROMEO TO SWITCH TO MERCEDES STYLE NOSE IN 2021

A Mercedes-style nose design is the “right way forward” for Alfa Romeo.
“We wanted to gain experience with it as quickly as possible,”.
“That is why we tested the first parts of the package as soon as they were available.
“According to the results of the wind tunnel, the new nose seems to be the right way forward for the future. There is more potential in the new concept, which will hopefully enable us to get even more performance out of the car.
“We will now gradually get more parts for this package to the track,” the Alfa Romeo team boss added.
The goal is to take advantage of the experience of a well-tried and close-knit pair of drivers like that of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi, to look to the 2021 world championship with more optimism.
In anticipation of the next racing season, Alfa Romeo has already issued a number of development tokens to bring in a Mercedes-designed nose, this in an attempt to improve the aerodynamics around the front wing, as Motorsport reports.
The team, which last year managed to cash in an eighth place in the manufacturer’s standings, has now invested its money in the development of a narrower nose for the C39. Technical director Luca Furbatto is allowed to redesign the nose of the Alfa Romeo on the basis of recent Mercedes specifications.
The narrower nose, which manages to reduce front drag, is already being used by almost all Formula 1 teams. Only Ferrari, customer team Haas, and Williams now have to make the switch.
The new nose will, as usual, first have to pass the necessary tests to obtain FIA approval, including a frontal crash test.
