FORMULA E POSTPONES START OF 2021 SEASON

Bad news for sports fans. A few minutes ago, Formula E announced that the Santiago de Chile ePrix would be postponed, this after having been consulted with the municipality of the capital.
In consultation with the Santiago municipality, the Santiago EPrix has been postponed. The races will no longer take place as a double-header on January 16 and 17 and we are working with the city to finalise dates on which to stage the races later in Q1 of 2021.
The start of the new Formula E season has been delayed in the wake of the decision to postpone next month’s planned Santiago E-Prix.
Tighter restrictions have been imposed in Western Europe in recent days, particularly in the United Kingdom, amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic
Formula E had planned to open its 2020/21 season with a double-header in Chilean capital Santiago across January 16/17.
But in conjunction with the Santiago municipality the event has been postponed.
Formula E organisers are working with the city in the hope of staging the races later in the first quarter of 2021.
It is the third planned 2020/21 Formula E event to be postponed due to the pandemic.
February’s Mexico City round and March’s visit to China’s Sanya circuit were both postponed back in October.
As it stands the next Formula E round will be the Saudi Arabia double-header, held in capital Riyadh, across the weekend of February 26/27.
Further events are scheduled in Rome, Paris, Monaco, Seoul, Berlin, New York and London between April and July.
The 2019/20 season was heavily affected by the pandemic, with several rounds cancelled, and a six-race finale held across a nine-day period at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport facility.
