A RACE TO FORGET FOR KVYAT

Daniil Kvyat had a race to forget after narrowly missing getting tangled with Grosjean and adding to an already nasty accident.
It didn’t get any better for the Russian after the red flag restart when he clipped Stroll, tipping the Racing Point upside down and knocking the Canadian out of the race.
Daniil Kvyat says Lance Stroll “turned in like I wasn’t there” and disagreed with the penalty he was handed following their collision at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Kvyat and Stroll made contact through Turn 8 on the opening lap of the restarted race, resulting in the Racing Point driver’s car being flipped over.
Stroll was uninjured in the accident though forced to retire while stewards deemed Kvyat culpable and handed him a 10-second time penalty and two points on his Super Licence.
AlphaTauri driver Kvyat continued in the race but finished out of the points-paying positions in 11th spot.
“I was fully on the inside of him and even if I think saw me he chose to turn in like I wasn’t there,” said Kvyat.
“I put my whole car on the inside of the kerb and there wasn’t much more I could have done.
“So, I don’t share the same view as the stewards regarding my penalty.
“It’s a shame they took this decision because it ruined my race. I’m upset but nothing will change the outcome, unfortunately.”
The contact was the fifth accident or collision encountered by Stroll in the last seven races.
“I can’t say much about the incident, I was going through Turn 8 and was mid-corner when I was hit by Daniil, who came out of nowhere and connected with me,” said Stroll.
“The crash looked worse than it was: I’m ok, and Daniil got a penalty.
“There’s no point thinking about what could have been or in the previous events. We won’t dwell on it because there’s nothing we can do about it now.”
