MARIO ISOLA, PIRELLI F1 BOSS, TESTS POSITIVE COVID-19

FIA, Formula 1 and Pirelli have confirmed the information.

Other F1 figures who have returned positive tests during the year include Williams acting team principal Simon Roberts, who missed last weekend’s race as a result, and Racing Point drivers Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll.

Pirelli’s Formula 1 chief Mario Isola has tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.

The positive test was confirmed by Formula 1, the FIA and Pirelli on Monday afternoon.

Isola returned a positive result during the regular Sunday Covid-19 tests that take place at grands prix.

Isola is now isolating, is asymptomatic and adhering to the local medical guidelines.

All of Isola’s close contacts have been identified, retested and no further positive cases have been returned.

Isola has fronted Pirelli’s Formula 1 activities since 2017 and attends grands prix in his official role as Head of F1 and Car Racing.

Away from Formula 1 Isola has for several decades spent a large portion of his free time as a volunteer ambulance driver and paramedic in his native Italy, assisting with the Croce Viola Milano.

Isola is the latest high-profile Formula 1 figure to return a positive test.

Williams’ Acting Team Principal Simon Roberts missed the Turkish Grand Prix due to picking up the virus while Racing Point duo Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll both previously tested positive.

All travelling Formula 1 personnel undertake regular Covid-19 testing, including prior to a grand prix, and within 24 hours of first entering the venue.

Formula 1 has conducted over 60,000 tests for Covid-19 since the season began in July. As Isola tested positive on Sunday, he will not be among the 70 positive cases identified so far, as the latest data was compiled on Friday.
