WOLFF IS LOOKING FORWARD TO “THE NEXT CHAPTER OF HIS CAREER”

The current director of the Mercedes F1 team, Toto Wolff, says he already knows the identity of his successor at the head of the seven-time world champion Formula 1 team.
Just after winning a seventh constructors’ title this Sunday at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Mercedes team director Toto Wolff told the media that he had already identified the person capable of replacing him in his position for the years to come.
The Austrian has been making no secret for several months that he wants to step back, although he has still not signed a new contract with his employer, not being sure of the role he would like to play in F1 in the future.
The Austrian said that he was now beginning to look at “the next chapter of his career” & “I believe that everyone has a certain lifespan in a role. ”
Much speculation has occurred over the years as to who might replace Wolff at Mercedes Formula 1 team. TJ13 broke the news to the UK after Wolff alluded as to who it could be back in the spring after a German Motorsport.com interview.
Wolff admitted Daimler boss Ola Källenius and Wolff had begun talks confirming that “we are in the middle of the process of working out our common future.”
“Whether that means team boss or managing director is irrelevant. And to be honest, I haven’t decided yet, because the races haven’t even started yet. All these talks are going on right now.”
In conversation with Jack Plooij for Dutch TV-program Formula 1 Cafe, Wolff doesn’t give much more clarity, although he seems to be having a good time at Mercedes.
“I still like it, but everything has an expiration date. As long as I can contribute, I want to keep doing it, and one day I will hand over the baton to someone else”, says Wolff in conversation with Jack Pooij for Formula 1 Café.
“I may already have some ideas, but that’s not something for the short term. First I will have to bring them in and guide them. That will take several years.”
With this, Wolff seems to suggest that he is not planning to leave Mercedes yet. Robert Doornbos, however, expects that he does have other plans. ‘Toto Wolff is a businessman, he also has interests in Aston Martin. I expect him to sell his stake in the Mercedes F1 team and embark on a new adventure at Aston Martin’.
